You sure about this, Linda? I mean, thorny apple is a lot like thorn apple 
which is usually applied to Datura, ususually D. stramonium. 

And trifoliate orange is a real thing. It is that thorny little hardy orange 
that they use for citrus grafting stock. Citrus trifoliata L.,now called 
Poncirus trifoliata. Not that all that could not have gotten muddled up along 
the way.....possibly in Anner's mind.
