Hi Linda,
I sat in on some AIS Board meetings where this was discussed, but that was a
while ago. I had thought the TBIS wanted to be a Section, but didn't want to
have to follow the AIS rule that all Section members had to also be AIS
members. Since that time, AIS has abolished that rule for all Sections. I don't
know what other requirements TBIS wanted changed. They were offered and turned
down Cooperating Society status which did not have the membership requirement.
The only other difference between the Sections and Cooperating Societies
that I can think of is that the Sections elect a representative to the AIS Board
of Directors. Again, I do not know what the hang-up is now other than
animosity between some TBIS officers and some AIS officers.
