Dave mentions seasonality as a factor in PBF--I've noted that too.

One thing to remember about the color is that it is an anthocyanin and will
fade in the sun.  Strongly PBF varieties will sometimes have the color
bleached out by strong sunlight as the leaf areas bearing color emerge.
