ADMIN: copyright theft

OK, I really hate doing this, but we are moving in a direction I don't care for.

Whether Laurie has or hasn't marked her photos, or put them on a public forum, or not, she retains the copyright on each and every photo. A copyright owner must explicitly yield the rights to a picture (or other work of art) and then (unless it is placed specifically in the public domain) refers to only the specific entity to which the copyright is passed.

The copyright is automatic, and applies to photographs as well as poems, plays etc.etc. regardless whether it is a snapshot or a posed/constructed photograph.

If you want to express your own preferences as to how you view your own works, do so as a positive presentation of your position. To criticize someone else for their position borders on flaming in the worst case, and may in the least cause some hard feelings.

I am trying to be gentle here, I am not attempting to scold anyone, but the tenor of things is moving in a direction I do not want to see.

I think copyright issues are an appropriate discussion area for both iris@hort and iris-photos. It is important and often confusing.
