We finally had rain here in San Diego last night, I'd almost forgotten what
it sounded like! This is the driest winter I ever remember. We've had
five inches of rain in 1999 while our average is 11 inches. In January,
mean rainfall is 2 inches (as measured for the last 87 years!) but this
year, we had only 0.22 inches. I typically turn off the irrigation system
in early November and leave it off until late March or April but this year
I switched it off only last night when I heard the rain.
