RE: Red gum Eucalyptus Lerp Psyllid

What you all have been saying is true. The lerp psyllid exudes a
sticky honeydew that attracts sooty mold and makes a mess in general.
UCExtension is advising people NOT to fertilize, prune, or overwater
trees as all of these activities stimulate new growth which is
increases the susceptibility of the trees. The overall infestation
also stresses the trees so that they are vulnerable to long horn
borers.

they say that euks can withstand at least three rounds of defoliation
so don't think the trees are dead and need to be cut down. The best
thing is to water the trees deeply, weekly during drought (at the
dirp line, not near the trunk) and wait for the parasitic wasps to
increase their populations. Evidently, that is what happened with
the eugenia psyllid a few years ago and the infestation was under
control within a short time.
