Up here on the foothills of Mount Pentelis north of Athens there sure is plenty of the usual yellow, but the surprise this spring is the dense carpet of blue muscari (grape hyacinths)...hidden in every clearing.
Also, someone in the neighborhood has committed the crime (actual) of cutting down a mature Aleppo pine, and I counted the rings on the felled trunk: 85. The beauty of this tree is in its dense shade and heavenly scent when sap is running. The down side: it harbors nests of caterpillars which make "trains" on the ground and whose dander is a skin irritant to sensitive humans like yours truly. Now is their season, so those itchy bumps on neck and arms have this to blame!
