Barb;
Thank you for the welcome, and I'm sorry i havent replyed sooner,
as to your question about low-maintenance plants, it depends on the site of
course, but I, mainly go for perennianls, and disapprove of big lawns, try
to go for as much indigenous species as these will withstand the normall
amount of watering without much more or low watering plants. as for
perennials the most that a person has to do is dead heading, cutting back
at certain times of the year. but then of course there is always the
weeding of the garden, but if plants are grouped close together and cover
most of the soil area there will be less weeding . Mulch also provides the
same results. As for the energy=efficient aspect its a matter of placing
trees, shrubs and other plantings to provide shade, sun areas of your
buliding site to lessen the use of air conditioners, in other words
providing cooling or heating to your building when and where it is needed.
These are just a few methods that are used, there are others as well. My
belief is that we can have all the comforts of a indoor and outdoor
enivorment that we are used to without all the mechanical devices, use of
water as well as pesticides and herbicides that we use now, we have to
rethink how we do things and work with the renewable resourses and let go
of the non renewable ones that we use now such as water. hope this answers
some of your question, if not let me know.
