Donna I can't believe this is how you describe yourself. I think you must
be underestimating your skills, and I am really glad to hear you refuse to
give up. Your climate must be so different from mine (Mississippi vs.
Philadelphia). Everything I do is basically trial and error and just a lot
of passion for the breathtaking beauty. Although its not all a success
story, but that's how you learn. I am totally self taught and pick up
whatever I can from this list or by just reading or talking to people. I
listen because you never know where you will learn something new. There are
two things I do religiously, one is water often and deep down so the roots
really get it, and the other is enrich my soil with organic matter,
compost, horse manure in no particular way just whenever I can. I get my
soil amendments from the recycling center free, and my kitchen garbage.
Because I threw kitchen scraps on my compost pile and to the soil,
sometimes before it is totally ready, I have a nice tomato plant that came
up by itself, and the opposite corner spreading far and wide is what I
suspect to be cantaloupe, also not deliberately planted. So, although my
garden is mostly floral by design, vegetables have settled in. Anyway
Donna, keep it up. I'm going outside, its actually refreshingly cooler than
the near 100s we experienced earlier this week.
