RE: Last day - Something new to grow

Duncan,

I can hardly stand it - leaving 300 species of plants behind. Weren't you
even tempted to take some along?

But a new place to begin again - that is tempting - to profit from all that
was learned before. If you have the time keep us posted on the steps you are
taking in starting from scratch. (Like, Number one - GOOD SOIL). No. 2 -
rent a bobcat?

I have a friend who asked me if I thought it was OK to open a new flower bed
with a machine (do you dig with a bobcat? - she wanted it double-dug, and
her yard men (yeah, she has gardener staff) want to use the machine. I
didn't know what to tell her (I'll never have that kind of staff problem!),
but I did say that if they don't mix the subsoil into the topsoil, maybe it
would work.
Has anyone any experience along these lines?

-Barb P. who cleaned out some flower beds today herself on her hands and
knees in S. Wisconsin
