Steve, are you sure your tap water is that cold? Most is about 70 degrees if
it is city service. Maybe you have a well (is that allowed in BH?)?
I think that if you are flooding apatch with 45 degree spring water you might
do some damage, but slow watering with water close to air temp should not
hurt.
This is an unscientific opinion, and some guys to solar heated water - but
again, I think they are using COLD well water.
