Re: patch size

I think I have a ridiculously small garden. My back yard is mostly concrete
with an unpaved strip along the side about 15 feet at its widest and three
feet at its narrowest. The area is about 30 feet long. To top it off, this
area is covered with shreaded redwood tree bark and other vegitation which
includes two 50' tall palm trees. I dug a pit 3.5' x 3.5' x 18" deep. I
filled the pit full of my soil mixture. As the pumpkin grew out of this
square I put soil under the main and secondary vines and ran a drip system
on top of each vine as I buried it. The plant's leaves are huge, healthy
and I have 2 two-week old pumpkins now. All other pumpkins have been
culled. My two pumpkins are growing quite well dispite the cool weather we
are having here in Northern California. When I returned from my three week
vacation in July I had a three week old pumpkin that weighed 20 pounds. It
was not the one to keep but it was very happy until I removed it. I have
been required to give a lot of attention to my plant but it has really been
a lot of fun. I knew nothing about pumpkins until a friend last March said
I bet I can grow a bigger pumpkin than you. Then my competitive side took
control. Thanks to the internet I have provided AG seeds to my two
competitors and a folder of AG information. I germinated all 11 of my AG
seeds and 10 of them are now providing pleasure all over the county since I
farmed them out to others. I do believe I will win this little competition
if my work continues to be successful.
