Re: Sapsuckers
Mike & Carolyn:
What just dawns on me, and Terry and I both failed to state, any bug
killer has the potential of killing the sapsucker.
Twenty years ago in my yard, a sapsucker attacked a winesap apple tree.
Like you I couldn't believe the drilling and of course, was distressed at
losing the tree. But my father said for me to leave it alone and plant
another. And to leave the snag. It was back there for 5 years.
Sometimes in the winter my kids smeared peanut butter on it and smashed
seeds into the holes.
My family loved the wildlife and it gave my neighbors plenty to talk
about. And in the summer, plant vines to cover it. Trumpet vine will
attract hummingbirds!
