My suggestion is "yes, you can...its your patch". But,I wouldn't. Having
grown my plants secondaries up fences,up holley trees, and planters looking
for that little extra space my recommendations would be terminate.Maintain
what you have and watch it grow. Here are my observations from my experiences
doing what you are considering: 1).-they wilt more when they are further
from the ground and I believe that the plant takes charge by sending food and
water to these wilting areas instead of the pumpkin.
2).-Its hard enough to spray these plants from waist hieght down than to
have to worry about spraying above the waist...some of these chemicals are
nasty and the wind always kicks up when you spray up for some reason.
3).-before you know it the plant will be a criss-crossing mess of tangled
vines.
4).-It will all come crashing down in the first gust front,T-storm or very
windy day.
5).-All those exposed vines will give the vine borers goosebumps.
Thats how I see it...Ive been there and wont go there again.....Glenn
P.S.---How do you long gourd guys/gals spray overhead?
