Joe, Carol, Pumpkin group,
  Had a few splits this year as well, to much wind rain and fertilizer I
figure.  Didn't have any captan not being a pumpkin pro so I tried an
experiment.  I used permetex gasket paste, (for cars) had a tube in the
garage.  It worked GREAT!  My largest pumpkin sor far is on that cracked
vine.......Thought you might like to know.......Neal  Port Orchard  Wa.
