Hello Allan,
I ordered mine through a nursery product wholesaler as I have a plant
business and can order wholesale. I could have ordered it without the
screen, but as the salesman pointed out, if anything malfunctioned
and I hadn't purchased the whole unit, then the company wouldn't take
any responsibility for problems. So, I bought the whole package, as
they say.
The screen is nothing more than regular "silver" metal window screen.
It covers the whole tape. I like it because it does protect the tape
from damage if flats are dragged across it..... not that I would ever
do that!!
I like it just fine. There is a copper probe heat sensor that's
attatched to the thermostat unit. I have it set to 70 deg. F, and the
flats feel warm even in chilly temps. There is a light on the
thermostat that indicates when the thermostat is heating or has
reached the desired temp.
Best Regards, Cindy in TX
