Re: Heat Tape was Regrigerator top

The top of my fridge is actually cold!

For a heat mat, I took a wooden box that I obtained from the local liquor
store ( the kind that the bottles are on the side) and I installed a
standard electrical box and lamp socket inside it .. and wired it, simply to
an AC plug .. then I turned it upside down so that the bottom of the box
with the light under it formed a heated surface (heat rises). After some
experimentation, I found that a standard 60 watt bulb gave me a soil
temperature in the bottom of containers of 80 degrees F when operated in a
normally heated home. It has been the home of many successful grafts,
sprouted seeds and cuttings!

you don' t need a thermostat if you ambient temperature is controlled !
Outside is another story!
