I picked up a stone from the North Fork of the Boise River (not very easy
to get to) years ago. It's been tumbled into roundness, but its history is
there at a glance: It was granite, fractured, and infused with white quartz
in a band, about one and a half inches wide. The violence inherent in the
makeup of that stone contrasts nicely with the peace and beauty of my
columbines. I love my rocks. Margaret L
