Re: Speaking Award
Dan et al,
This just off the top of my head:
Speaking awards would need to be judged by video. This would be similar to the radio or TV entries - it could either be a 15 minute sampling of the talk, a section of your talk, or an entire 50 minutes.
To my mind, Dan, who is in the audience doesn't matter. An excellent speaker is just that, excellent, and it doesn't matter if he/she is speaking about widgets, business, or cottage gardens. When I speak to an audience my goal is to have the spouses who've been dragged to the event just as engaged as the devote gardeners in attendance. Every talk should inform, inspire and entertain, period, and the awards would be one way to encourage people to improve their skills to that level.
Yes, those with a well-produced video will have an advantage. These days, having a well produced video example of your speaking is important for every speaker. (One of my goals in the next few months is to get some video examples of my work on my website. More and more potential clients are asking for it.) Production values matter with entries for radio and TV as well.
Does the GWA awards program take print entries in other languages?
all the best,
C.L.
