Re: Blackberries treated just like rasberries

Square Foot Gardening List - http://myweb.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Steve-  I have just put in a blackberries last year. The plant died bac above ground but came back with new canes- no fruit this year. Blackberries only fruit on second year canes, just like rasberries. Try to save your new plant's canes for a crop next year.

Have a great day,
bill missen.

What I'd like to learn more about growing is a good patch of
blackberries. These used to grow wild behind the house I gew up
in. I think they take at least one full season before they
produce. I'd like to prep a trellis area along the back fence.

Any "berry" pointers or recommendations would be appreciated.
