Re: Versicolor or virginica was Spuria?

I would be interested in any collected seed from virginica's northern range because I am only able to grow Iris versicolor  from seed to here in the northern tier of the White Mts. I am sure I have tried virginica years ago - I have tried a lot of seed and pretty much rely on my own now.

I am in a solid Zone 3a with reliable snow cover for 6 months of the year and lots and lots of rain during our short growing season.

I'll have to make an effort to collect seed from the northern edge of
virginica's range for the seed exchange, if I can find them among the
versicolors. Considering the species is native from Lake Superior to
Florida, I imagine there's a lot of variation in hardiness. Assuming
that Flora of North America range map I linked to is correct, there
are populations of virginica native to USDA Zone 3a (-40Â) in Wisconsin.
