Hi All,
I'm having a new and incredibly irritating problem with my Sibs. The
only Sib currently in bloom is SHAKER'S PRAYER, but a number of others
are in bud. Most of my clumps are young and small with only a couple
stalks a piece this year, and several will be blooming for the first
time. PLEASURES OF MAY is one such 2-stalk newbie that I've been eagerly
awaiting to see bloom. The night before I expected to see the first bud
open, something came by and snipped it off cleanly just below the bud.
DANGED DEER (or so I thought). Not a big problem. I still had three
more buds to open. A couple nights later, the terminal bud on the other
stalk disappeared, again cleanly just below the bud. ARGH! Two buds to
go, further down the stalks. A few nights later, bud #3 disappears -
clean again. I cut the other stalk and brought it inside to bloom it.
This morning as I was looking over the Sibs, I noticed a similar thing
happening to ROKU OJI, with a little twist. One of the secondary buds
was nipped off cleanly, but two of the terminals on different stalks look
like they're half eaten from the top down. They also look a bit slimey.
THIS AIN'T DEER DAMAGE! What the heck is doing this, and how can I stop
it IMMEDIATELY???
Thank you for your speedy assistance,
Laurie
