Re: Re:Iris brevicaulis Ontario

Double checked agricultural zones. Point Pele is ag zone 7a, about
equivalent to North Texas. I'm zone 4b, about equivalent to north
Michigan, coldest areas.. I had collected a versicolor from Point
Pele a number of years ago. Disappeared over winter here and the
versicolors from here are very hardy. Outside here would have zero
chance of surviving winter. Point Pele is a Banana belt area, much
much different climate then what I have even if only a hundred miles
south.

Going to have to leave in pot and over winter in garage.

Chuck,Â
Dennis sounds right to me in that I think it took mine 2 years to
flower after collection. Full sun does make a difference as does no
grass competition. ÂI have a long list of these native swamp species
that do not flower much now probably due to too much shading. Veratrun
woodii is another species that Âcomes to mind, been working with that
one for years as well. I would not try to winter it in a pot in your
zone, get it established Âin the pot and plant it out in August. I
think it will be hardy for you with out much problem.
